How to get the most out of SEMDA 2017
T-minus 6 days and counting to SEMDA 2017 in Atlanta! We are gearing up for what is going to be a collection of outstanding interactions and learning opportunities for all stakeholders in the medical device and medtech realm. The entire Southeastern medtech community will be accessible in our annual “one stop shop.” You can cover more ground in two days at SEMDA 2017 than you could in two months on your own. Here are a few tips to help you generate the greatest value out of your time with us in Atlanta.
1. Set some goals
Startups and early growth stage companies, meet with at least five investors. Want to talk to the Senior Director of New Ventures at J&J? Ibraheem Badejo will be there, as will seasoned medtech investors like Bob Crutchfield and angels like Paul Gianneschi.
“We are looking to invest in companies who have found a highly valuable solution to an unmet clinical need- and it is going to be a long haul,” Badejo told us during our recent State of Southeastern Medtech Innovation webinar. “With the regulatory guidelines that are in place, these are not short term investments that we are making.”
Find your value-based vendor or partner. Do you need IP advice? Are you evaluating your readiness for preclinical? Are you ready to add marketing muscle? No matter where you find yourself in the process from concept to commercialization, expert resources including sponsors like Butler Snow, BakerHostetler, MMA, GCMI, T3 Labs and more will be there for you.
Investors and large device companies: don’t miss the PitchRounds winners vying for $10,000 and a trip to Advamed 2017. We scoured the Southeast earlier this year in our six stop PitchRounds Road Show. Previously vetted by experienced investors, one of these may well be the next young company in your portfolio.
Service providers: find your next clients! “SEMDA serves as the central connecting hub for the Southeast medtech community,” said Courtney Warren with the Marsh & McLennan Agency. “We have met new companies at SEMDA that are now MMA clients. Through our involvement with SEMDA, we have been able to connect our clients with investors, suppliers, and specialists to help their business succeed.” Read more about how SEMDA delivers value for MMA.
2. Don’t miss the plenaries and concurrent sessions
We’ve gone to great lengths to put together a program full of industry leaders and actionable, high value content. Put your sessions of primary interest on your calendar and be there! In addition to the knowledge gain, you just might find a partner capable of driving your business forward like Dune Medical Devices found in our colleagues at Write2Market last year.
From The Wall Street Journal: “If Surgery Got Cancer in One Try.”
3. Be social, be bold.
As Kayla Rodriguez, COO of SweetBio, told us last year, “Our experience at SEMDA helped refine our strategic direction, improved our pitch, opened new doors and helped validated our business. Allow yourself to be social, be bold. The collective crew at SEMDA is most welcoming.”
You can see the list of attendees through the conference app.
4. Download the app
SEMDA is proud to offer a conference app again for 2017 to help you make the connections that help you get business done! In it you will find profiles of more than 200 organizations, 400 attendees including investors, speakers, sponsors, PitchRounds participating companies and more. You can request meetings, set your own personalized agenda, view the floor plan, create and share business cards and more. We’ve made connecting easier and of greater value. Registered attendees will find their login information in their email from SEMDA, subject “Welcome to SEMDA 2017.” Download it in advance!
